How to Use

Before using the TIME-SERT Spark Plug Repair Kit, confirm that the original spark plug thread is M14 x 1.25 and uses a washer / gasket seat. The leading section of the specialist step tap engages with the remaining original thread, helping guide the tooling as the larger receiving thread for the TIME-SERT® insert is formed.

Prepare the washer-seat area with the supplied seat cutter, then select the appropriate 9.4mm or 16.8mm insert according to the spark plug reach and available threaded depth. Install the insert using the dedicated driver in accordance with the official TIME-SERT® procedure. During final installation, the driver cold-rolls the specially designed lower internal threads, expanding the corresponding external threads into the parent material and mechanically locking the insert in position.

Washer Seat vs Taper Seat

The 4412-321 is specifically intended for washer / gasket-seat spark plugs. Washer-seat and taper-seat spark plugs use different sealing arrangements, so the seat type must be confirmed before selecting or using the repair system.

 

Short Tooling – Check Access Before Ordering

This is the short-tooling version of the TIME-SERT® M14 x 1.25 spark plug repair system and is intended for suitable applications where the spark plug hole is relatively close to the accessible surface.

Where the spark plug sits significantly down inside a deep plug well, an extended-tooling TIME-SERT® system may be required. Check plug-well depth and tooling access before ordering.

 

Important – Check Before Machining

Confirm the original thread is M14 x 1.25, the spark plug uses a washer / gasket seat, and the selected insert length matches the spark plug reach and available threaded depth.

This kit is intended for first-time repairs. If the hole has previously been repaired, enlarged or fitted with another insert system, do not assume the 4412-321 is suitable. Metal chips generated during machining must also be carefully controlled when carrying out an in-situ cylinder-head repair.
